This highly experiential, developmentally appropriate course is all about developing inner resources. Teens will learn how to identify and work with the entire range of emotions they experience.
And while learning what it means and what it feels like to focus, they’ll meet their minds, perhaps for the first time.
Although focusing the attention benefits education and cognitive processing, arguably more important is what happens with social and emotional intelligence. We will also explore thoughts and feelings about identity and investigate the stress-response behaviors they have that might be maladaptive and in need of shifting.
They will be introduced to deep listening, work on their communication skills, and even assess the impact social media use and current events are having on their well-being.
All practices are science-based and have been shown to improve well-being and decrease chronic anxiety and pain, and even increase happiness.
INCLUDES PRINTABLES and downloadable guided mindfulness meditations.
1 hour/week in class and 10 minutes/day of guided practice or working with emotions (printables included).

We’ll meet live weekly on Thursdays from 6-7pm Eastern/5-6pm Central/4-5pm Mountain/3-4pm Pacific

Mindful Schools and the Greater Good Science Center have all kinds of research if parents are interested. Here’s what it shows:

- mindful eating and other consumption (/changes in consumption)
- increased self and bodily awareness
- decreased reactivity
I’m happy to address whatever is called for to the best of my abilities.
We will all need to be careful to not retraumatize others with our own stories. We specifically don’t tell details of trauma and stay in our present experience of whatever is occurring as we increase our capacity to be with discomfort of all kinds.

Mary Martin, PhD has a BA and an MA English from the City University of New York at Queens College, and a PhD from New York University’s School of Teaching and Learning. Mary spent several decades as a professional writer and editor, contributing to over two dozen nonfiction books in the fields of personal science and education.
