Tween & Teen Book Clubs
Are you looking for a low-pressure way to include reading? Do you want supplemental reading guides focused on understanding and vocabulary? Would you like project and paper prompts themed around books? Does your learner like to meet with others to discuss what they’ve read? Dr. Sabrina Weiss and Dr. Michelle Parrinello-Cason are excited to bring you this and more in the SEA Tween and Teen Book Clubs!
The supplemental components of these Book Clubs brings these up to the level your students would get in middle school and high school literature classes. At the same time, your family is free to pick and choose how much you use, so you can adapt each Club to fit your own schedule and time constraints. Each of these has suggested writing assignments that are thought-provoking, helping students dig deeper and investigate concepts more fully.
For an additional cost, Sabrina and Michelle will provide students with meaningful feedback that focuses on their strengths and challenges. Feedback will be given for rough and final drafts of projects and papers included in the class materials.
Class materials are housed on Teachable. Learners will use online discussion boards and Zoom for interactive components. Those using the Feedback Add-On will use Google Drive and/or Dropbox to submit assignments.

The purchase of the online class component includes the following:
- A suggested reading schedule
- A PDF reading guide with comprehension questions
- Vocabulary activities
- Discussion board posts in our online classroom (Live classes only)
- Writing/multimodal project prompts related to the reading
- An invitation to a live discussion (Live classes only)
- A recording of the summary of the live discussion

Live Tween Book Club
These sessions run monthly with specific start/stop dates so that learners can participate in interactive components like discussion boards and live discussion sessions.
We are media, and media is us. I have always loved stories as opportunities to learn, think, and explore ideas and problems within and beyond us. So I use stories as starting points for learning, with a focus on fantasy, science fiction, and speculative fiction. Many of these stories are based in actual histories, inspired by real cultures, and provoked by relevant problems and technologies.

Reading is a lifelong skill that we all continue to develop as we learn and grow. All of my selections are designed to help readers reflect on their place in the larger world and how their sense of self relates to empathy and understanding for others.
